Effect of Race on Education
Ever since the dawn of time, education has been an integral part of developing mankind. From the ancient civilizations to the modern age, education and the way information is communicated to the next generation is extremely paramount. Without an excellent, or at worst adequate, communication of information, society breaks down and civilization burns into anarchy. One may wonder where the relevance of education is to Race and US Politics. Behold what is probably one of the most important classes a student will take in grade school: US History. This class(or at least the content) has been integrated into education at every level, graduating increasing in detail and complexity. Everybody knows about the American Revolution, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and the slogans chanted during the revolutionary period. However, there are many facets of US History that schools tend to ignore, either due to the sheer grotesque nature of the subject or due to the complexity and “brainwashing” as some parents put it. Put simply, US History classes are inherently flawed because they disregard the most important parts of our history and focus on the glorified aspects. The way we fix this is by focusing on the initial social hierarchy created by the conquest of the Americas, analyzing post-slavery racial discrimination towards African Americans, and focusing on other minorities affected during the 19th and 20th century as well so that students are well aware of the most problematic conundrum in US History: Race.
